Signs of damaged engine mounts:
- Noticeable and abnormal vibration in the vehicle while the engine is running and stationary (in P or N).
- Increased engine vibrations transmitted to the interior of the vehicle during acceleration.
- Unusual noises such as clicking or knocking coming from the engine area, especially when starting or stopping suddenly.
- Abnormal vehicle vibration when the transmission is in Drive (D) or Reverse (R) at a complete stop (e.g., at a traffic light). These vibrations decrease or disappear after the transmission is shifted to Park (P) or Neutral (N). (This is a strong sign associated with the engine being overloaded.)
- Noticeable increase in engine vibration when shifting between R, N, D while stationary.
- Visible deformation or damage to the rubber or flexible materials that make up the engine mounts when visually inspecting the underside of the vehicle.
These signs mainly indicate that the engine mounts are no longer effectively absorbing engine vibrations and weight, causing them to be transmitted to the vehicle's chassis and felt.
